HTTP 402, finally activated

x402 turns “payment required” into a protocol machines understand.

A server returns HTTP 402 with the price, network, asset, and recipient. The client signs a payment and retries the same request. Once verified, the resource is returned—without account creation or a pre-arranged API key.

x402 is an open standard for internet-native payments built around HTTP 402 Payment Required. It lets APIs, websites, and agents negotiate and complete payment inside standard HTTP requests.

02Why do AI agents need a unified payment method?

Agents select services dynamically. Account registration, subscriptions, and manual API-key provisioning cannot match that speed. A shared protocol makes discovery, authorization, payment, and delivery programmable.

03How is LavoLoop different from x402?
